This Proposal aims to address the social and ecological issues, by converting potential petrochemical sites throughout long beach, into cultural/ ecological nodes, and connecting them via Urban Green Corridors, all, while commemorating the history of Long Beach.

“ Oil - was discovered in Signal Hill in the year 1921, and has since dominated the landscape of Long Beach. “ However, Oil takes a massive toll on our health. Young Children and adults living near refineries die of lung and throat cancer at a rate 3 times higher than

surrounding areas.

Today more than 7 million Californians live within a mile of an oil well. In Signal Hill, some of the derricks are within 300 feet's of schools.

WHY now?

Today only 0.5% of the original 950 million barrel remain. Sooner or later this industry will cease to exist, freeing up massive infrastructure, and hence the need for action.
