Patrick Tighe, FAIA, FAAR is Principal and lead designer of Patrick Tighe Architecture.


The firm is committed to creating an authentic, contemporary Architecture informed by technology, sustainability and building innovation. Since its inception in 2001, Patrick Tighe Architecture has produced a strong and diverse body of projects that includes city developed affordable housing, commercial, mixed-use projects, civic art, installations and residences.


In 2007, Patrick Tighe was awarded the prestigious Mercedes T. Bass Rome Prize in Architecture. The previous year, Tighe was the recipient of the American Institute of Architects’ Young Architect Award and the 40 under 40 Award. Tighe is a Fellow of the American Academy and The MacDowell Colony. The firm’s work has received over 50 design awards including seven National AIA Honor Awards, American Architecture Awards, a Progressive Architecture Award, Los Angeles Architecture Awards, West Side Prize, Best of Year Awards as well as local AIA Honors. In 2011 Patrick Tighe was elevated into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects, the highest honor bestowed by the AIA.


Recently completed projects include the Sierra Bonita Mixed-Use Affordable Housing project for people living with disabilities. The 50,000 sq. ft. building served as a pilot for the City of West Hollywood’s Green Building Ordinance (2012 American Architecture Award, 2013 CA AIA Award). The Moving Picture Company (2011 National AIA Award) is the US headquarters for the UK based post-production company located in Santa Monica. “Out of Memory,” a site-specific installation designed by Patrick Tighe for the SCI-Arc Gallery, is an experience at the convergence of sound, form, material, light and technology (2012 National AIA award, 2011 American Architecture Award, Istanbul Biennale, Biennale of Architecture, Buenos Aires, Argentina). Buildings have been completed in New York, Texas, Maine, Massachusetts and many of the culturally diverse communities within the greater Los Angeles area. Projects are now in development in Morocco, Asia and the Middle East.


Patrick Tighe received a Master of Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to establishing Patrick Tighe Architecture, Tighe worked in the office of Thom Mayne (Morphosis) for seven years. Tighe was on the faculty at the Southern California Institute of Architecture, (SCI-Arc) from 2007- 2013 and is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern California.


Tighe lectures on his work and has been exhibited internationally. The work of Patrick Tighe Architecture has been published extensively, appearing in Architectural Record, Architectural Digest, The LA Times Magazine, Interior Design, LA Architect, Form and Newsweek. The firm’s work has also been included in numerous architectural anthologies including The Power of Pro Bono (2010) and the latest edition ofThe Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture.


In 2013 the work of Patrick Tighe Architecture was included in the MOCA exhibit, A New Sculpturalism, Contemporary Architecture from Southern California.
