Elizabeth Valmont

Elizabeth Valmont Harrington is an Associate Principal and the Americas West Technical Services Leader at Arup. In her role, Lizzie develops technical disciplines with a shared vision to empower teams, grow skills, drive digital and sustainable development innovation, and achieve positive commercial outcomes. These technical disciplines include Acoustics, Audiovisual, Theater, Experience Design, Facades, Fire & Life Safety, Geotechnical, Tunneling and Geology, Lighting, Security and Risk, and Specialist Technical Analytics Research, Products, Industrial Materials. 


Elizabeth has 15 years of experience in the acoustic design and engineering field with an expertise in room acoustics, exterior and interior noise control, and building systems noise and vibration. She is an active project director and project manager for multidisciplinary projects in the entertainment, arts and culture, hospitality, mixed-use commercial, healthcare, education and transportation sectors.


During her career at Arup, Elizabeth was the discipline leader for the Acoustics, Audiovisual, and Theater team; the Market Leader for Entertainment, and Arts & Culture; and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion leader for the Los Angeles office. She has been recognized by the Los Angeles TimesPopular Mechanics, and the BBC for her work on projects that include the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Renovation and the Flight 93 Tower of Voices in Pennsylvania.


Elizabeth is a board member of the Southern California Development Forum and is an active member of the Acoustic Working Group to support the Healthcare Guidelines Revision Committee in revising the FGI Hospital, Outpatient and Residential documents.


Elizabeth holds a PhD in Architecture and is a Lecturer at the University of Southern California, School of Architecture, where she has taught courses in sound, light and building science systems for over 15 years.
