Faculty member Victor Regnier receives Fulbright

Victor Regnier receives Fulbright to share his knowledge and explore new models of housing for the elderly in Portugal.

Victor Regnier FAIA, Professor of Architecture and Gerontology at USC, has received a CIES Fulbright award to do research and teaching in the architecture program at the Catholic University in Viseu, Portugal.  While there he will continue his investigation of housing environments for the mentally and physically frail with a particular emphasis on family-based approaches that involve formal and informal systems of housing/care delivery.  He will consult on the development of seminar and studio coursework in the architecture department while conducting research.  This is the second Fulbright Regnier has received in his career.  The first examined residentially based care in northern Europe.  The invitation to teach and consult on a new program for housing older people was in part a result of demographics--Portugal has one of the highest percentages of people over the age of 65 coupled with one of the lowest percentages of people under the age of 17 in the European Union.
