12/05/18 Faculty and Alumni Honored in The Architect's Newspaper Best of Design Awards
Multiple USC Architecture faculty and alumni were honored in the The Architect's Newspaper’s sixth annual Best of Design Awards, a unique project-based awards program that showcases exceptional buildings, interiors and installations. This year’s competition received more than 800 submissions across 45 categories, which were open to all of North America. Projects were judged on criteria such as strength of presentation, evidence of innovation, creative use of new technology, sustainability, and good design.
Faculty members who won awards included Eric Haas, whose firm won the Unbuilt -- Interior category for its Long Beach-based Children’s Institute project; Warren Techentin’s firm, Warren Techentin Architecture, which received an honorable mention for his Elysian Fields project in the Residential -- Multi Unit category; Lorcan O’Herlihy’s firm, LOHA, which received an honorable mention in the Education category for his UCSB San Joaquin Student Housing project; and Alvin Huang’s firm, Synthesis Design + Architecture, which received an honorable mention for his Nansha Scholar’s Tower project in the Unbuilt -- Commercial category.
Alumni firms that won awards included Thom Mayne’s Morphosis, which received an honorable mention in the Facades category for The Emma and Georgina Bloomberg Center at Cornell Tech, and Joseph Sarafian’s Form Found Design, which received an honorable mention in the Digital Fabrication category for the MARS Pavilion.
