08/02/19 Alumnus to Chair 39th Annual USC Architectural Guild Golf Tournament

The USC Architectural Guild announces leadership support for its 39th Annual Golf Tournament to be held Sept. 23, 2019 at the San Gabriel Country Club. This year’s honorary chair is Christopher C. Martin ‘74, FAIA, chairman and CEO of AC Martin, the event’s title sponsor. As one of the premier networking opportunities in Los Angeles for the built environment, this tournament draws partners, principals, and top-tier decision-makers from a cross-section of the industry, as well as alumni and philanthropic supporters of the School of Architecture. The day begins with 18 holes of golf and concludes with an award presentation reception.

While embracing this personal and company engagement, Chris Martin remarked that “supporting the Guild is a strategic investment in the next generation of architectural students and the industry overall. As more students gain critical access to experiences and vital resources provided by the Guild, our industry will benefit greatly.”

Generations of Martins are alumni of USC Architecture, as are many of AC Martin’s employees. Chris Martin is also currently Board of Councilors Co-Chair for USC Architecture and recipient of the 2006 Distinguished Alumni Award presented at the USC Architectural Guild Annual Dinner. Chris’ architectural work with AC Martin has contributed significantly to downtown Los Angeles as well as the USC campus.

The School is honored to recognize this third-generation leader of AC Martin, one of Southern California’s most established firms, as the tournament’s Honorary Chair. “Chris’ continued generosity and commitment to the School and the USC Architectural Guild serve as an inspiration to us all,” says USC Architecture Dean Milton S. F. Curry.

Founded in 1958, the Guild provides guidance and insight into real-world experiences for students beyond the classroom. The Guild also encourages alumni and non-alumni peers – leaders in architecture, design, construction, engineering, finance, and real estate development – to give back through career development and mentorship, scholarship and global fellowship support, and technology and material resources for architectural students. Through industry acumen and networking, the Guild enriches and amplifies USC Architecture’s education, inspiring practitioners and architectural students to find purpose, meaning, and fulfillment in their pursuits.

“We’re very grateful for Chris Martin’s support and AC Martin’s title sponsorship. These efforts enable the Guild to grow and meet the School’s needs, strategically aligned in mission, purpose, and values,” said Leslie Young, ’95, of STIR Architecture and current president of the Guild.

Proceeds from the golf tournament benefit students through Guild-led activities such as the mentorship program, the design charrette, and career week. The latter offers professional development workshops and culminates in the annual Firm Fair, where students network and explore opportunities for internships and jobs with top local and national firms.

There are a limited number of sponsorship opportunities still available. For more information, please contact arcguild@usc.edu. Tickets to the networking reception and awards presentation may be purchased through this link.
