Mario Cipresso has extensive experience working globally on a broad range of project types including mixed-use supertall towers and large-scale urban masterplans along with academic, institutional, office, and civic work. Mario's award-winning design work has been published and exhibited extensively.
Prior to his recently joining CO Architects as a Design Director, Mario founded Studio Shift Architects in 2004 as a critical practice with a commitment to challenging convention and producing innovative architecture through rigorous analysis and advanced design methodologies. From 2001, for a period of six years, he worked as a lead designer and project architect alongside Pritzker Prize-winning architect Thom Mayne of Morphosis where he contributed to many of the firm’s most innovative and notable projects both nationally and internationally. In 2013, Mario returned to Morphosis for a brief one-year term to lead the design development and technical documentation for a 350m tower in Shenzhen, China.
In 2013, Engineering News Record California named Mario one of the “Top 20 under 40”. In addition to being a licensed architect in California, Illinois and Colorado, Mario holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
