The Landscape as Necessity Debate Series will showcase the power of landscape architecture. It will raise the profile of the profession of landscape architecture in Los Angeles and beyond and as well build public awareness and change prevailing perceptions of landscape architecture in the city. Most importantly, the series will create a landscape architecture community in Los Angeles that bridges the academy and practice.

Kate Cullity, is director of the firm T.C.L., Taylor Cullity Lethlean, a leading Australian landscape architecture firm, based in Melbourne. She is a noted landscape architect and environmental artist with particular skills in the integration of public art with landscape and urban design. Her background in botany, and strong personal interest in horticulture has resulted in her involvement in the plant selection and design of sites throughout Australia.

Mia Lehrer is founder of Mia Lehrer + Associates. The firm’s work is focused in the design and implementation of a diverse range of ambitious projects that include urban revitalization developments, large-scale urban parks, watershed design, infrastructure master planning and complex institutional projects. She has collaborated with multi-disciplinary teams on milestone projects to form a synergistic project vision, develop sustainable design strategies, people-friendly public space and facilitate workshops to foster lasting community bonds.
