Professor Hall is a recognized expert in issues of historic preservation. As a principal and director of architecture at Historic Resources Group, he has been the lead preservation consultant for the preservation of The Gamble House since 1997. His work includes the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Angels Flight Railway, the Rose Bowl, 12 buildings at El Pueblo (Olvera Street), and Grauman’s Chinese and Egyptian Theatres. Professor Hall teaches short courses in historic preservation in the USC summer program as well as courses in the graduate certificate and degree program in historic preservation. He has presented at the national conferences of the American Institute of Architects, Association for Preservation Technology International, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the Society of Architectural Historians. His projects have received honor awards from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, preservation awards from the California Preservation Foundation and the Los Angeles Conservancy, a design award for the Egyptian Theatre from the American Institute of Architects, and several historic preservation awards from the Cultural Heritage Commission of the City of Los Angeles. He is President Emeritus of the California Preservation Foundation and former chairman of the board of directors of Pasadena Heritage.
