http://www.usc.edu/uscnews/stories/10063.htmlIn 1999, Professor Koenig received the AIALA Gold Medal and was named a USC Distinguished Professor. In 1998, he was named the Distinguished Alumnus of the School of Architecture. He was the 1996 recipient of both the Maybeck Award and the 25 Year Award of the American Institute of Architects California Council. He graduated from the School of Architecture and taught at USC for over 30 years. Internationally recognized for his modern steel designs, Professor Koenig's work has been exhibited and published extensively in America, Europe and Asia. Case Study House #22 appears worldwide in architectural periodicals and has become an icon for Southern California living. A full-scale replica of the furnished house was constructed for the 1990 MOCA Temporary Contemporary exhibit titled "Blueprints For Modern Living." He was a guest lecturer at the San Francisco Museum of Art as well as at Harvard, Yale and other universities across the country. A practicing architect as well as an educator, Koenig was the director of the undergraduate building science program at USC and headed the Natural Forces Laboratory, the site of the Architectural Wind Tunnel, Heliodon, Water Table and various seismic shake tables. His research focused on the effects of natural forces on form, as well as the interrelationship between design and technology. Professor Koenig was one of three Finalists in the 2001 Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards Program, he received the AIACC 25 Year Award for Maintaining Excellence in Design for Case Study House No. 21, also in 2001, a City of Los Angeles Historic Preservation 2000 Award of Excellence; Bailey House (Case Study House 21), 2001 and was elected an Honorary Fellow in the Royal Institute of British Architects, 2000.
