Alice Kimm was born in Chicago and spent her high school years in Seoul, Korea. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1986 from Cornell University and a Master of Architecture degree in 1990 from Harvard University. In 1997 she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to research housing types in Korea.
She co-founded John Friedman Alice Kimm Architects (JFAK) in 1996. JFAK has been published widely and has won numerous design awards, including an AIA National Honor Award for the L.A. Design Center, AIA/LA Awards for the Ehrlich Residence and Club Sugar, and an I.D. Best of Environments Award for The Brig. Alice has taught design studios at USC, SCI-Arc, and Otis College of Art and Design. She has served on the Board of Directors of the L.A. Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and is currently a peer reviewer for the Government Services Administration's Design Excellence Program.
