As a professional Architect and Structural Engineer for more than thirty years Mr. Vergun specializes in earthquake and environmental safety and as a technical expert for litigation cases. Also, he is a structural consultant for leading national and international architects such as Edward R. Niles, Architect FAIA; Coop Himmelblau, Ray Kappe, Eric Owen Moss, John Mutlow, Frank Dimster and Arata Isozaki. From 1973-present Mr. Vergun has been an active Adjunct Associate Professor of Architecture and Building Science at U. S. C., Los Angeles, and is currently teaching fourth year undergraduate engineering students in a studio format operating in a manner similar to a design office dealing with architectural and engineering projects. Mr. Vergun was recently a consultant to Dr. Goetz Schierle for CUREE (California Universities for Research in Earthquake Engineering) which has given a research grant of one million dollars to the U. S. C. Department of Architecture and Building Science to research the effects of construction defects on the Northridge Earthquake. Design Awards received include the American Institute of Steel Construction, National Design Award for a Multiple Family Housing Project Designed in Steel; U.S. Department of Transportation, Structural Design of a Sound Barrier Wall around the Los Angeles International Airport for the City of Westchester; Progressive Architecture Magazine, Gold Medal Honor Award for the Morganstern Office & Warehouse Complex, Los Angeles, with Eric Owen Moss; and a MTA Design Award for the Metro Transit Authority, Los Angeles with John Mutlow; and the 2002 Design Award for Excellence of a Canyon House by the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute.
