Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects project nominated for Beazley Designs of the Year 2016

October 17, 2016

The Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects project SL11024 has been nominated for the Beazley Designs of the Year in the Architecture category.

Held by the London Design Museum, the awards “celebrat[e] design that promotes or delivers change, enables access, extends design practice or captures the spirit of the year.” Their website cheekily notes that “someday the other museums will be showing this stuff.”

SL11024 is a housing complex bordering the UCLA campus that thoughtfully negotiates the uniquely shaped site, project program requirements, and the neighborhood itself, which includes Richard Neutra’s Strathmore Apartments across the street. SL11024 has also been recognized with a 2015 AIA California Council Design Award.

The other twelve nominated Architecture projects include MAD Architects’s Harbin Opera House, BIG’s VIA 57 West, Herzog & De Meuron’s Tate Modern Switch House, and OMA’s Fondazione Prada.

Winners in each category as well as the overall winner will be announced January 26, 2017, and nominated designs will be exhibited at the Design Museum from November 24, 2016 to February 19, 2017.
