Climate/Shelter/Patterns
|
|
| The research
conducted in the Fall 2003 analyzed through case studies dynamic building
envelops that adjust to climate, aesthetics, and occupant needs. These moveable
skins also change the overall appearance of the structure – so much
that it requires two photographs to fully understand the building. A catalogue
of resources and projects were developed to identify the building, architect,
location, use, date completed, and explanation of dynamic features. Some
of the projects highlighted in the study are the GSW Headquarters, by Sauerbuch
Hutton Architects, in Berlin, Germany; Maison Lapatie, by Anne Lacaton and
Jean Philippe Vassal, in Floriac, Bordeaux, France; and the Apartment and
Commercial Building, by Herzog and de Meuron, in Basel, Switzerland (featured
in the image). |
