San
Bernardino Convent in Ferrara, Italy |
|
| In the
middle ages, there once existed a convent in Ferrara, Italy, called San
Bernardino. Under the historical expertise of Diane Ghirardo and Karen Kensek,
the purpose of our research is to collect data pertaining to the appearance
of the convent. From the aged plans and sections, we have only fragments
of information, and are missing detailed specifics of the interior and exterior
facades that include frescoes, and window/door openings. For example, from
the plan, one can understand certain marked openings between spaces, but
one cannot assume the placement of windows at any certain height, or size,
since there is no indication of their placement. In addition, the configuration
of furnishings, pieces of art, and materials is being researched in order
to associate certain spaces with their functions. By written descriptions
of certain rooms in the convent, which have been translated from Italian,
we can begin to understand parts of it visually. Once all this data is interpreted
accurately, 3D computer renderings will re-create the entire convent as
a completed architectural treasure. link to additional images (by Yun) |
