| This project was planned as walkable city planning at Setagaya ward in Tokyo in 1986. This promenade, connects Youga Station on the Denen-Toshi-Line and Setagaya Art Museum, shows us various devices, which balance function and enjoyment. There are historical roof tiles designed to represent abstract geometric patterns. Places to sit are frequent and various: wooden benches imbued with an almost animal inner life; a watchful 'armchair' with eyes too close together like a cartoon character, two thrones encrusted with stones and shells; a raised four-bench platform, floored with bamboo. There are small rivers and bridges designed for children, and the water place attracts the children. Water spews abundantly from a mouth-like hole and then suddenly stops. Two boys try to probe the mysterious opening, but are only thrown back. However, they rejoice the device. The water again gushes out; further along a girl stands over a small fountain in a raised pool and her bright yellow dress, spread out like a waterline, spontaneously billows up. Red turtle-tiles are laid endlessly on the river. The orange pebbles dance like goldfish in water flowing gently downs from a small spring: toddlers cross and re-cross the bridges and squeeze through their inviting arches. | Related
