Revising
Unit Design for ADA Compliance
|
|
| My work
has been to update the single occupancy toilet room and the kitchen of the
winning entry to the Solar Decathalon for ADA compliance. This prototype
is now slated for construction on the grounds of the California Science
Center, but the project designed as part of the original submittal was not
handicap-accessible. The rooms need to fit into a truck for transportation
to the site. Also, the tile layout has now been designed to accommodate
ready-to-assemble applications requiring no tools, which also required changing
the layout of the fixtures and door detail. In updating the kitchen design,
appliances and layout were thought out, including minimum working space,
knee space and maneuvering space in front of appliances, and energy star
rated appliances providing easy accessibility to handicap people. |
