Library
Architecture in the United States
| For my Graduate Research Scholar Grant, I am working with Professor Kenneth Breisch as he researches and writes a book on library architecture in the United States. The book, which will be published by the Library of Congress and Norton Books in 2005, will contain hundreds of images of libraries from roughly the mid-18th century to the present day. I was responsible for the creation of a FileMaker Pro database into which all of the images can be downloaded and sorted. The majority of these images are found in the Library of Congress website, and they include not only photographs, but floor plans and architectural drawings as well. Over the past year of research, I have created nearly 1500 records with images and related information. In addition to creating the database and downloading the images, I conducted extensive architectural research that will contribute to the content of the publication. Several of the images found in the Library of Congress website do not have the corresponding information that will be needed for the content of the book, such as architects’ names, dates of construction, etc. For such cases I located the necessary information online and added it to the FileMaker database. | Library
