Annual Guild Events
In addition to many smaller events throughout the year for Guild members, students and faculty, the USC Architectural Guild sponsors the following annual events.
Faculty Event
The Guild Faculty Event provides USC School of Architecture faculty and Architectural Guild members an opportunity to meet and interact. With representation throughout the architecture, construction, and real estate community, Guild members are available as practical resources to support USC School of Architecture faculty efforts through construction site and office visits.
The Parkinson Spirit of Urbanism Award and The Esther McCoy Award
The Parkinson Award honors and individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to the urban fabric of Southern California. The Award was named for John Parkinson and Donald B. Parkinson, whose early 20th century civic and commercial projects helped define the urban character of the City of Los Angeles with such buildings as Bullocks Wilshire, Union Station, and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. In 2004, the Parkinson Award was presented with the Esther McCoy Award. Named for the noted writer Esther McCoy, author of numerous works about modernism in California, The Esther McCoy Award was created to honor writers, filmmakers and other individuals whose creative work educates the public about architecture and urbanism.
Quarterly Mixers
The Guild is hosting mixers roughly every quarter for the purpose of exploring timely industry topics and/or networking for professionals and students. The Quarterly Mixers represent the continuation of the Guild's past "Forum" events, which have featured a reception, symposium and/or tour highlighting some of Los Angeles' most significant sites, programs or firms. Past Forum events include: a Getty Center Tour, the Los Angeles Civic Center: The 10 Minute Diamond, FIGEXPO, California Science Center, Southerwestern University School of Law, Law Library, the former Bullocks Wilshire Building, and "Transit that Works: Can Los Angeles Learn from Brazil?"
Courtside with the Guild
Courtside with the Guild brings together architecture students and professionals for a mixer followed by a USC Men's Basketball game. This event is a great opportunity for networking in a friendly low-key setting. Mark your calendars for 3.6.08 for this special event vs. Cal!
Corporate Member Event
An exclusive event for corporate and life members of the Architectural Guild that takes place at the site of a significant new work of architecture or building project, the Corporate Member Event has previously given members firsthand insights into projects at Playa Vista, the Cathedral, Disney Concert Hall, Universal Studios, LACMA, UCLA, and USC's Galen Center. We are organizing a first-of-its-kind even in the OC on 1.17.08!
Annual Dinner
Our biggest and most popular event of the year, every May the School of Architecture honors a distinguished alumnus who has enriched and honored the profession of architecture. The event offers almost 500 supporters of the School of Architecture a chance to meet and mingle, and to honor the accomplishments of a graduate of the School, while providing financial support for current and future students. The noteworthy recipients of the award over the past twenty years include a diverse range of accomplished architects, teachers, designers, and builders.
Golf Tournament
Over the past 25 years the Architectural Guild's Annual Golf Tournament has raised more than $750,000 in support of School of Architecture scholarships and fellowships. Attracting Guild members and friends from throughout the building industry, the popular Golf Tournament provides participants with a day of fun and cameradie while supporting the School of Architecture.
