USC Architectural Guild’s Next 50 Campaign
Celebrating the Past - Creating a Sustainable Future
USC Architectural Guild Endowment for the Advancement of Sustainability Studies
The USC Architecture Guild will usher in the next 50 years with a significant focus on creating solutions and greater consciousness for the environmental challenges facing society. With this vision in mind, the USC School of Architecture is pleased to initiate the USC Architectural Guild Endowment for the Advancement of Sustainability Studies in support of specialty programs in environmentally forward education and research. The endowment provides funding for academic enrichment through programs, studios, faculty, and student and faculty research.
Through enriched academic stimulus and engagement with advancing technologies, students broaden their ecological literacy and evolve into socially responsible designers of the built environment. Recognizing that the materials, construction, and operation of buildings account for more than half the nation's energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, the endowment facilitates the development of environmentally sustainable design. Drawing on the strengths of ideas and expertise from a diverse architecture and building industry community, the endowment encourages leadership in the various disciplines and studies represented by the Architectural Guild members.
The history of the Guild is rich with professors, friends, alumni, and students who are trailblazers, contributing ideas and actions to combat leaving a sizeable carbon footprint. Members of the Guild-- past and present-- have proven themselves by implementing techniques of energy-efficient construction, using renewable and recycled materials, and pioneering other emerging environmental sciences.
The USC Architectural Guild Endowment for the Advancement of Sustainability Studies is an exemplary marker of 50 years of growth. The endowment expresses the Guild’s commitment within the architectural community to be stewards of the planet-- its citizens and resources-- for a creative and educated vision of a sustainable future.
