2009 Guild China Trip

Please join Dean Qingyun Ma and the Guild for a special tour to Asia.

Over an 11-day period, you will visit major cultural and architecturally significant citiesincluding Beijing, Mongolia, Xi'an, Shanghai and Taipei.  You will experience tours with top experts and insiders.  

A highlight of the trip will be a stop in Ordos, Mongolia where you will witness first-hand the development of the 100 villas.  Ordos 100 is a unique project curated by Ai Wei Wei Studio, which was also responsible for the master plan.  Herzog de Meuron selected the 100 architects who are particpating in this program.

This trip also ties in with the opening of the USC Shanghai Office as well as an event with the USC American Academy in China (AAC).  The AAC was established as the primary destination for universities throughout the United States and world to study architecture, the arts, and humanities in China.  It is dedicated to the advancement of scholarly exchange and research in these fields.

The last leg of your journey will coincide with the USC Global Conference in Taipei (Oct. 29-31).  This is an opportunity to connect with alumni, friends and business leaders from the Pacific Rim and beyond to examine the challenges facing us today and explore the potential for change.  Formal presentations, panel discussions and multiple networking venues will provide conference participants with a unique opportunity to engage with the leaders in these fields and explore ideas and solutions.
