Student participants from study abroad program in Saintes, France display their original architectural models, drawings and photographs.
In an effort to offer outstanding fourth and fifth year students the opportunity to extend the boundaries of their architectural studies beyond the USC campus, the School of Architecture operates four study abroad programs. This exhibit will display projects from the most recent participants of the program located in Saintes, France.
Fall Semester in Saintes, France, under the direction of USC Professor Selwyn Ting, is based at the Centre d’Etude d’Architecture et d’Urbanisme (CEAU), a teaching and research center in southwestern France. Saintes is the center of art history and culture for the region, possessing a wealth of architecture ranging from the first century AD to the present.
In addition to Professor Ting students study under Gerald Knowles, Director of the CEAU, vistiing architects Jon Adams Jerde, FAIA and Steven Ehrlich, FAIA, Professor Kent Fitzsimons of Rice University and landscape architects David Fletcher and Matthew Gordy.
The program includes extended trips to Barcelona and Berlin as well as historic towns in southern France. Shorter trips to significant architectural and urban projects in the region are conducted weekly.
The work will be on display from Monday, February 9 through Friday, February 13. Students from the Fall 2008 Saintes study abroad program will host a reception on Monday, February 9 at 6:00 pm.
